About Us

Located at 200 South Walker Street in Cobden, Illinois, our fellowship consists of an active and vibrant group of believers that have a mind to serve God through worship, discipleship, and missions. Organized in 1876, we are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.

We believe the Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired
and is God's revelation of Himself to man.

The fact that Jesus died for our sin, was buried, and then rose from the grave is foundational for Southern Baptists. He lives today and stands ready to give abundant and eternal lif;e to all those who repent of sin and place their faith in Him. We invite everyone to receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

Our mission is to lead all people to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

The vision of FBCC is to win the lost to Christ by making disciples of all nations, introducing Jesus in the church community and globally; to develop mature disciples in Christ, through Bible Study, prayer, and demonstrating the worship of our Lord and Savior; and to love and serve the community as Christ, with a heart of a servant.

God
There is only one living and true God. He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and everywhere. He reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit loves, judges, and freely offers grace through faith in Christ.

Son
Jesus Christ, is the perfect representation of the Father in human form, both fully human and fully divine. He was born of a virgin and lived a sinless life. In death, He was the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people. He rose from the dead after three days and, a short time later, ascended to heaven. He will return one day and, in the meantime, lives in Christians.

Holy Spirit
He lives within each Christian to inspire, guide, convict of sin, and give abilities and spiritual gifts for carrying out the work of the church.

Scripture
The Bible is the historical revelation of God's activity for humanity, the authority of God to teach, guide, correct, train, and save. It was inspired by the Holy Spirit, is truth without error, and is complete in revealing the will of God.

Salvation
Salvation is God reconciling humanity to Himself. The solution to overcoming the death penalty of sin is to acknowledge the need for God, turn from sin, believe that Christ is Savior, and publicly confess Jesus as Lord. Once salvation occurs, it can never be taken away.

Baptism
Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change that has occurred in the life of the believer. It is not a means of salvation.

Communion
Communion is a symbol of Christ's sacrifice. The bread and the cup represent the body and blood of Christ. All those who have accepted Christ as their Savior are welcome to participate during the periodic observances.

The Church
The church is the body of Christ made up of different people with different abilities and gifts. Responsibilities of the church are worship, stewardship, discipleship, evangelism, missions, and practicing spiritual gifts.

Membership
Any person may offer him/herself as a candidate for membership in our fellowship any of the following ways:  (a) by profession of faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and following in baptism according to the policies of this church; (b) by promise of a letter of recommendation from another Baptist church; or (c) upon a statement of faith from another denomination of similar teachings with the understanding that he/she has been scripturally baptized (immersion), and will accept the practices and teachings of Southern Baptists.
